When it comes to feeding your body wholesome, nutritious food and juices, just say no to GMOs! GMO stands for “genetically modified organisms.” Foods with GMOs have undergone genetic engineering where its genetic material has been artificially manipulated. When an organism has been artificially manipulated, it becomes unstable with genes that do not occur in nature or through crossbreeding.

More and more foods are being modified making it hard for consumers to stay up to date on what’s at risk and what’s GMO-free. Committees such as the Non-GMO Project work to inform consumers, raise awareness and keep an accurate list of at-risk ingredients.

Agricultural goods are separated into two groups: high-risk and monitored risk. High-risk GMO goods are products currently in commercial production. Monitored risk goods are products suspect of modification either because of contamination or because they have genetically modified relatives. For a product to be considered Non-GMO it has to pass under the Non-GMO Project Standard. The Standard main goal is to help farmers, processors and manufacturers avoid GMO contamination by identifying at-rick production inputs and ingredients. The Standard creates compliance guidelines in the analytical testing of seed, crops, ingredients and products during critical points along the production chain.
